About us
Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. For 200 years, our crews have been risking their lives to save those who are in danger of drowning. There is an opportunity at Rosslare Lifeboat Station for an engineering professional to join the team as the Senior Station Technician. This role would suit someone with broad mechanical expertise, ensuring the Rosslare Lifeboat remains in perfect operational order. Additionally, strong leadership, resilience, and management skills are essential for navigating challenges, identifying and resolving defects, and effectively implementing maintenance plans.
Your role
The role of Senior Station Technician is focused for those individuals with a Republic of Ireland (ROI) NFQ Level 6 or higher in an engineering discipline, or time served engineering apprenticeship, or a sound mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering background with extensive demonstrable experience.
If these qualifications or experience are not held then suitable individuals may be offered a Station Technician role in lieu in Grade D, and targeted training will be provided to reach the required standard.
In either role, most of your time will be spent ensuring that the All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) is kept in the best possible condition. You will also ensure that the Lifeboat Station functions on a day-to-day basis. You will be involved in the technical training of volunteer crew members - so that when an emergency shout does occur, you, your crew, and your lifeboat will be absolutely prepared.
Your role will include:
- Implementing the planned and preventative maintenance schedule.
- Fault finding, diagnostics, and defects reporting. Developing solutions to ensure the ALB is always ready for operation.
- Working with the Area Technical Manager, the Senior Regional Technician, and the Regional Technical Cell to ensure smooth operations by resolving problems effectively and efficiently as they arise.
- Inspiring and motivating the volunteer technical crew; supporting their development, conducting shore-based training, identifying ways they can improve, and imparting your valuable knowledge.
- Taking a lead on Quality, Safety, Health, and Environmental issues, helping to develop a positive culture within the station.
- Spending time in the day to day running of the Lifeboat Station; this may be in the form of answering e-mails, ensuring records are maintained, and working with the Operations Team.
This is an emergency response role so the successful candidates would need to live within a reasonable distance from the station and be prepared to respond to a pager 24/7 whilst on duty.
Some of the benefits
- Salary: €47,104 to €55,416 (dependent on experience)
- 26 days’ annual leave (plus Bank Holiday days)
- Outstanding pension scheme (contributions of up to 16% of basic salary)
- Life Insurance
- Health plan option
