Political editor, Scotland
The political editor works with the editor, deputy editor and the assistant editor to deliver a distinctive, agenda-setting political news package across all platforms for The Times and The Sunday Times in Scotland. They will ensure world-class standards of digital and print journalism, and work as an integral part of the Scottish editorial team.

Responsibilities
Successfully manage productive relationships with the editor, the deputy editor, the news editor and with journalists in London and Glasgow
Work with editors, writers and reporters to conceive, commission and edit distinctive agenda-setting political stories for a digital and print audience, focussing on constructive stories that put people at the heart, with high quality analysis and expertise
Maintain excellent contacts across Scottish politics
Have the ability to write with authority and command the respect of our readers and those within the political arena
Forward-plan, pitch and deliver long-range projects and investigations
Use SEO and audience data to help guide pitching and commissioning
Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote The Times and The Sunday Times Scotland content
Pitch exclusive video, polls, interactive graphics and picture gallery ideas to engage our digital audience and plan how these stories are shared and promoted online
Represent The Times and The Sunday Times on radio, television and other media, especially our own internal stations
Skills and experience
Experience working as a senior political journalist for a national newspaper or digital news publisher
Demonstrable experience writing and pitching ideas for a digital audience
Extensive contacts in Scottish politics and a proven ability to bring in exclusive stories
An understanding of how audience data supports pitching and commissioning and how to promote a story on social media and through search engines
Knows how to attract and retain new digital audiences
An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy
Reliable and prepared to put in extra time and effort where necessary
Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Excellent presentation skills and able to communicate succinctly and effectively
A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
