Join the CWA Team as an Ecology and Biodiversity Manager for the Sizewell C Project!
Are you passionate about ecology and biodiversity, and keen to make a significant impact on one of the UK's most transformative energy projects? As part of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), I am thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for an Ecology and Biodiversity Manager to join our team. This role will support the Sizewell C project, a 3.2-gigawatt power station designed to provide low-carbon electricity to around 6 million homes and ensure a sustainable energy future for at least the next 60 years.
Your Role: Ecology and Biodiversity Manager
As our Ecology and Biodiversity Manager, you will be pivotal in advising and supporting our operational teams on all aspects of ecological management and compliance with legal obligations and the project's Development Consent Order. You will also engage with local stakeholders and the public as needed, ensuring sustainability and effective ecological practices on site.
What You'll Be Doing:
Pragmatic Support: Provide advice and site support to operational teams, ensuring ecological requirements are met according to programme, budget, and quality standards.
Ecological Management Plans: Develop and support the implementation of these plans.
Relationship Building: Foster strong relationships with clients, regulators, design teams, and project management teams.
Compliance: Ensure site compliance with ecological legislation and coach construction teams on applying controls and mitigations.
Environmental Management: Maintain the company's environmental management system in line with changing standards and legislation.
Incident Investigation: Investigate and report ecological incidents, finding practical solutions to challenges.
Surveys: Conduct habitat suitability assessments and protected species surveys.
Consultancy Services: Provide ecological consultancy to both external and internal clients, including surveys, mitigation, and on-site support.
Biodiversity Net Gain: Offer technical support for biodiversity net gain initiatives and foster a culture of continual ecological improvement.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation.
Degree or Masters level education in Ecology or a related subject.
Thorough understanding of ecological legislation for development.
Good commercial awareness.
Full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel.
Solid grasp of environmental management for construction sites.
Proficiency in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Membership of CIEEM.
Experience working on large-scale infrastructure construction projects.
Desirable:
At least one protected species survey license.
