Job Description

Community Support Worker (Drug and Alcohol)

9am to 5pm Monday to Friday

Job Purpose:

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Community Support Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will play an essential role in supporting vulnerable individuals within the community, particularly those affected by substance misuse and homelessness. This position involves delivering psychosocial interventions and facilitating the recovery journey for service users, helping them reintegrate into society.

Key Responsibilities:

* Service User Support: Provide comprehensive support to service users from the initial entry into the service through their entire treatment and recovery journey.

* Intervention Delivery: Deliver psychosocial interventions as part of the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service, helping users overcome addiction and substance misuse.

* Outreach: Conduct outreach efforts across Birmingham to engage and register vulnerable individuals, especially those from hard-to-reach communities.

* Partnership Collaboration: Work closely with other agencies as part of an integrated service, ensuring a holistic approach to support.

* Follow-Up: Actively follow up with service users who miss appointments to ensure continued engagement and support.

* Reintegration Support: Assist service users in their social reintegration, empowering them to lead purposeful lives by promoting recovery, resilience, peer support, and self-determination.

Skills and Experience Required:

* Substance Misuse and Homelessness Knowledge:

* Strong understanding of the complex issues surrounding substance misuse and homelessness, with relevant experience in the field.

* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong ability to interact with service users and professionals.

* Initiative and Time Management: Proactive and able to manage workloads independently, prioritizing tasks efficiently.

* Mental Health Knowledge: A good working knowledge of mental health services, interventions, and best practices.

* Team Player: Supportive with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working in partnership with a wide range of professionals, agencies, and stakeholders.

* Change Management: Ability to manage change successfully while keeping the service users' needs at the forefront.

* Information Governance: Strong understanding and commitment to following necessary information governance protocols.

* Learning and Development: A continuous learner, eager to improve professional skills and contribute to the development of others.

* Caseload Management: Ability to manage a small caseload of vulnerable service users and complete comprehensive assessments.

Qualifications:

* NVQ/BTEC Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent experience) – required

* IT Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.

Experience:

* Health & Social Care Sector: 2+ years of experience in a similar role – preferred

License/Certification:

* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care – required
