Job Description

Community Animal Care Assistant – part-time, permanent position

Would you like to be part of a unique community pet support scheme which aims to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of both companion animal and owner.

We are recruiting for a part-time Animal Care Assistant, working 4-5 days each week (between Monday and Friday and to be available between 8.30am and 4.30pm) to support our clients and their companion animals.

If you have a keen interest in animal care and a desire to support vulnerable pet owners and have a UK driving licence and your own vehicle, we would like to talk to you.

Our Community Pet Support Scheme (CPSS) provides practical pet care support for the companion animals of elderly, physically disabled and housebound pet owners in their own homes in the Leicestershire districts of Blaby, Hinckley & Bosworth and Oadby & Wigston.

Client home appointments

You will be required to visit client homes by pre-scheduled appointment to undertake such duties as dog walking, basic pet grooming and providing transport for their pet(s) to a nominated veterinary practice.

Days, hours of work and pay

Client appointments are between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm and we require someone able to commit to working a minimum of 4 days each week between Monday and Friday. Currently this will equate to working an average of 14-20 hours each week. We currently pay £11.50 per hour, pending pay rise in April and the majority of appointments are 1 hour in duration. We do not pay fuel expenses but plan the most economic route for client visits.

Safeguarding and monitoring

This role does not include providing personal care for the pet owner, but you will be required to monitor their wellbeing and address any concerns directly to the CPSS Co-ordinator.

Training

The CPSS Animal Care Assistant will be expected to participate in an induction, training programme and undertake an Enhanced DBS check. On-going training may be required to enhance skills.

This position operates on a bank work basis which means you will be paid for the appointments you undertake but registration on the bank does not constitute or imply mutuality of obligation between either party, i.e. there is no obligation on the Charity to offer you a certain number of hours and no obligation on you to take additional hours (over and above your specified availability). Workers will however be asked to indicate their availability in terms of days, hours and location and based on this are expected to take client work with reasonable notice, often requiring ongoing and long-term commitment.
