Description

We seek a qualified accountant for a pivotal role within our local government client in South Gloucestershire. The candidate's experience in preparing statements of accounts and strong ICT skills (e.g., Excel, SQL, Power BI) will be crucial to our operations. The candidate will work alongside our existing Senior Closing Accountant to clear the backlog of audit queries and develop reports for our new finance system to aid in closing 2024/25. The role will also involve developing accounting practices, such as consolidating separate ledgers.

Responsibility

Our finance team provides comprehensive financial advice and operational and financial support services to our departments. We work collaboratively to ensure compliance with accountancy standards and codes of practice, with our Management Accounting and Technical Accounting teams covering the key activities.

Qualification – Essential

* GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.

* Recognised CCAB qualification (preferably CIPFA) and considerable post-qualification experience in local government.

* Advanced –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Social Media.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Requirements - Criteria-to be Tested at Shortlisting

* Writing Microsoft Power BI reports

* Developing accounting practices and policies

* Experience preparing statements of accounts and strong ICT skills (i.e., Excel, SQL, Power BI).

* Experience in critical financial processes: capital programme, treasury management, borrowing, lending and banking function

* Technician qualified or will have equivalent relevant professional experience in local government, covering the key financial processes of financial planning, budget preparation, monitoring, and final accounts.

* Experience supervising a small team to deliver quality, effective, cost-effective financial management and support services

* Good project management skills to work and oversee projects as and when required

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Experience in undertaking analysis and appropriately communicating the results to the selected audience

* Well-organised with excellent time management skills

* Experience working in a Local Government Organisation

* Knowledge of CIVICA Financials
